What is this test for?
Mygenia cardio panel consists of a series of genetic sequencing tests specified for detecting inherited risk that leads to Cardiac Death.
What is “Cardiac death”?
Cardiac death is the generalized term representing deaths caused by heart or cardiac failure. In Hong Kong, it is ranked the 3rd top killer in 20131. Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD), being one major example, can go as far to claim one’s life in their prime year without any precautionary symptoms. It is a very serious situation in Hong Kong for it accounts for over one-third of the all cardiac deaths.
Around three-quarters of SCD cases are caused by coronary heart disease2. Others are mostly unexplained. With recent advancement of technology, scientists recognize a high association of these cases with genetic factors. Inherited Cardiomyopathies (CM) and Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome (SADS) fall under this category.
Cardiac death is dangerous and silent
NO SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS
When it happens, it can claim a person’s life immediately without having enough time to react.
CAN OCCUR IN MOST HEALTHY BEINGS
There are cases of SCD occurring in young and healthy adults, even children
SIMILAR TO MUSCLE PAIN
Heart attack is often misinterpreted as minor muscle pain
Who should consider this test?
Family history of any heart diseases
- Genetic associated risk
- Patients with family history has 5.3 folds increased risk
High risk life styles
- Smoking
- Stress
- Poor diet
Experienced muscle pain around the chest
- Pain may be associated with the heart instead
What should I do if I am at risk?
IMMEDIATELY CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR FOR GENETIC TEST
Test for genetic factors for cardiomyopathies (CM) and sudden arrhythmia death syndrome (SADS) - ie. Mygenia Cardio Panel
TAKE PREVENTIVE MEASURES
Early identification of genetic risk can prevent SCD from happening with proper preventive measures - eg. Drug intervention
CLOSELY MONITOR WITH REGULAR CHECK-UP
Monitor your heart condition and identify any abnormality before it is too late
AVOID HIGH RISK LIFE STYLE
It is always advisable to have a good habit for healthy life style
